Hundreds of highly effective educators were nominated for the Excellence in Teaching Award and the Excellence in Leadership Award by DCPS educators, students, parents, and community members. From this pool of nominees, approximately 20 educators were invited to interview for this prestigious award. After careful consideration by the selection committee, seven teachers and one principal are selected as the 2012 Excellence Award winners.
The award, which comes with a $10,000 prize, is possible thanks to the generosity of Mr. David Rubenstein, co-founder and managing director of the Carlyle Group and chairman of the Kennedy Center, who believes that highly effective educators should be rewarded for the important work they do every day.
